On June 27, 2014, the Global Cities Institute hosted a delegation from the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Low Carbon Model Town Task Force in Toronto, Canada. The taskforce comprised of innovative thinkers from across government, international organizations, research institutes, and non-profits met with GCI staff and experts from the University of Toronto, City of Toronto, Canadian Standards Association, and Ministry of Environment.

The APEC delegation also approached GCI for its expertise on standardized urban metrics and how the new international standard, ISO 37120 Sustainable Development of Communities: Indicators for City Services and Quality of Life, can be applied to the Low Carbon Model Town.
